Wendy Beamont …… 1942-2015

It is with great sadness that we report the death of our Founder and first Commodore, Wendy Beamont.

wendy

Wendy passed away on Sunday 9th August at the John Radcliffe Hospital, aged 73 years. She will be sadly missed by her husband David, daughter Tracey, grandchildren and her many friends and trainee’s. The funeral service will be held at South Oxfordshire Crematorium on Wednesday 26th August at 2.pm.

Wendy first became interested in David, her husband and boats (in that order) when she was a child of about 3 years old living in Barking, Essex. Daylight bombing raids permitting, the youngsters often visited Barking Park where there happened to be …..a boating lake.

They soon became firm friends and over their childhood years they became more and more ambitious with regards to boating. The rest is history. Wendy wrote about those formative years on their page in the Members’ area. It is a very sweet tale of two children, several boats and eventual marriage.

During her lifetime Wendy was very much involved in the Scout movement, The Cotswolds Canal Trust and of course the Cotswolds Canal Cruising Club which with a few others, she founded in 2011.

She will be sadly missed but remembered by all who knew her. Our condolences go out to David, their daughter Tracey and her grandchildren.

Wendy’s funeral took place at the South Oxfordshire Crematorium on Wednesday 26th August.
